Explaining Ways to Motivate Staff to Achieving Objectives – Part 2

Theory X Y by McGregor:

Indicator of intrinsic motivation of employees to determine if theory X or theory Y from McGregor is more suitable for the business and Theory X States the principle that employees are inherently dislike work and must be constantly motivated by external sources Theory Y States the principle opposite, stating that employees are determined internally to successful projects that really interest them (Legge, 1995).

Put strict operational guidelines in place to guide the employees of frontline through their daily routines if feels the theory X is most appropriate for the Organization. Make sure employees understand that are free to try new things and learn from their mistakes, while matching employees upwards with work tasks that really interest them if feel that the theory is the way to go (Dale, 2004).

Maslow’s Theory: Theory practice theory of motivation Leadership and management of the motivational Styles elements famous Abraham Maslow psychologist helped managers develop the motivation of the employees. Includes theory of needs Maslow, which breaks down basic human needs in five categories: physiological, safety, social, believes self-esteem and self-actualization (Jaffee, 2001).

Figure 1: Maslow’s Needs & Wants Hierarchy (Maslow, 1987)

Security must instill security, like a house or a comfortable routine. Social needs relate to the desire to belong and to form meaningful relationships. Self-esteem needs are developed depending on the confidence and the sense of accomplishment. According to the Maslow (1987), once the individual has obtained these four needs, and developed self-realization, requiring it to be found. Taking a sincere interest in employees, recognizing their fundamental needs and taking steps to respond, and inspire and motivate employees.

Application in more recent years, researchers have developed the theory of transformational leadership, which is appropriate in most situations. Jorgensen (2002) sites that under this theory, the guide for executives with sense, values and higher goals and specifically, it requires integrity, give a positive example, encourage, support, inspire, apply to effective communication, provide challenging assignments, give credit where and when its due, expect the best workers, realistic goals and help employees focus on the interests of the team rather than individual needs.

Using theories and models of motivation such as Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and McGregor’s theory X and Y or any other suitable model of motivation, above is the explanation ways to motivate staff to achieve organisational objectives.
